I've been a fan of yours since January this year. My husband was unemployed at the time and felt your pain. He found your site thru Slashdot.
Anyway, I am greek myself and I can vouch for this movie (My Big Fat Greek Wedding). It was a pretty good portrayal of greek family insanity (though the spitting thing was a little overdone). I can see why you think this is a "chick flick", but if you know any greeks, it's just plain hilarious!
My husband is an American (born and raised here, never left the USA) and he had to go through very similar situations with my family. I'm not Greek Orthodox so he didn't have to do the baptism thing, but pretty much put up with everything else. Yes, he did put up with it, and yes he told me several times that he will do what he has to to keep me, and yes he was made fun of and torchered by my brothers and cousins.... and we DID get married after all. So to answer your question about greeks, we aren't THAT exagerated, but yes that movie portrays several people from our greek family quite well.
