Concerned about spoilers in reviews

Hey, Odd Todd.
You say on the main review page that you will never include spoilers in your reviews. Yet, you've occasionally spoiled things and said "(sorry about the spoiler)" afterward. So I'm nervous that you're going to ruin the ending or something whenever I read your reviews. Could you please edit the offending reviews? I'll go through later to see which ones specifically have spoilers, but I have math homework to do, so I can't do it now.
Thanks in advance. Unless you don't do it. In that case, you get no thanks. Because if you don't fix it, you have done nothing to deserve thanks. Except making the awesome site, of course. Thanks for the awesome site. But these thanks will/would be for fixing the spoilers specifically. You know what I mean.

EDIT: On second thought, I don't have the time or the patience to sit here reading all the reviews. Maybe some other time. At any rate, try not to include spoilers, okay? And if you really want to include a spoiler, tell us it's a spoiler beforehand, instead of spoiling and then apologizing. That way I don't have to get all nervous when reading your reviews.

Team America:

"Blood splattering, heads exploding, and someone getting sliced in half. Jeanie Garafala's face looked particularly demented when she bought it (sorry for the spoiler)."

All of your spoilers are just little things that you can read in reviews anwhere. Everyone knew a lot of celebs get killed in this movie. I'd say, don't worry about it tOdd. I think this dude is just being picky.

School of Rock

November 15 2004, 6:04 PM

Yeah, that, but I was thinking more of the School of Rock review.

"In the end it all works out a-ok of course (sorry for the spoiler)."
I know, that's just a general idea of what the ending is and it's kind of obvious that it's going to end up okay, but still, it's a spoiler and you said there's no spoilers.
So could you please be a little more careful?
And yeah, I guess I am just being picky.

You complain to Todd about spoilers, and I see two spoilers right here in this thread. Where was YOUR warning that this thread itself would contain spoilers?????

I don't read Todd's reviews until AFTER I've seen said movies. Now you complainers go & list spoilers in this thread?

Hypocritical Bastard

WARNING SPOILERS

November 17 2004, 2:49 AM

OK - enough is enough, as much as I enjoyed 'School of Rock' it's not really the type of film that warrants WARNING! SPOILERS!! JACK BLACK IS GOING TO OVERACT!!

Generally speaking, if a movie has been out at least a year - you should be able to say whatever the Hell you like. So let's get'em outta the way, savvy?

Citizen Kane: Rosebud = sled
Rocky I: He loses
Love Story: She dies
Empire Strikes Back: Vader is Luke's Dad
Bound: Kickass lesbian scene
Planet of the Apes (1968): Its Earth in the future
Dirty Dancing: Nobody puts Baby in a corner
Fight Club: Tyler Durden/Narrator = same person
Tango & Cash: Jack Palance dies
15 Minutes: DeNiro dies halfway through
Home Alone 1/2: Bad guys thrwarted
Wild Things: (see Bound)
Blade Runner: Happy ending
Blade Runner - the Director's Cut: Unhappy ending
City Slickers: (see Tango & Cash)
LOTR - Fellowship of the Ring: Gandalf dies
LOTR - The Two Towers: Gandalf lives
LOTR - Return of the King: You don't have to watch the last 25 minutes.
MulHolland Drive: Eh... you got me.

Feel free to add your own...

Re: WARNING SPOILERS

November 17 2004, 3:23 AM

Titanic - the ship SINKS! That's about as far as I'll go on this one . . . because before seeing the film I read a frikkin' SPOILER!!!! Mind you, I still enjoyed it, & maybe knowing a little about the it kept me from blubbering like an infant, as compared with my then girlfriend (now wife) who was crying her eyes out in the movie theatre.

Having said that, I'll say that I've seen every single flick named by Marc Daniel 'cept the director's cut of Blade Runner. Depressing ending you say, . . . . See, that isn't really a spoiler because M.D. didn't say why it was depressing, AND if he had, I might be disappointed if I saw it. Like if M.D. said, Harrison Ford gets killed or something, then maybe I wouldn't want to see it. Actually, I'd probably still want to see it anyway.

BTW, Speaking of director's cuts, I thought Apocalypse Now Redux didn't add anything new to the original. The movie released in cinemas is (in my opinion) far superior to the Apocalypse Now Redux version. What I will say for it is that the longer version has about two scenes which could well have made it into the original version that was released in cinemas in 1979 though it is debatable whether those scenes would have really added anything more to Coppola's masterpiece. The rest was schlock & I'm glad Coppola decided to cut it. Had certain parts of the movie where Willard interacts with the crew been included in the original version though I think the audience would have had a slightly take on Willard. In Redux the dynamic between the characters is different than in Apocalypse Now.

I think probably everyone has seen a movie like "Field of Dreams" (I think I've seen Field of Dreams like 7 X), or "Rocky I", but of course there are some people who may not have. I heard about "Love Story" from my parents who saw it when it first came out in theatres. I've never actually seen it myself, but I know what'll happen if I do.

To conclude, I think not including spoilers is the best way to go. Look what it did to Siskel and Ebert's already tumultuous relationship.

Oh, and Marc Daniel, I've got just the actor for your "Life Story": He's Canadian (though I don't know if he's done any Shakespeare), how about Donald Sutherland? Kiefer could play your wierd uncle from out of town or sumfin'. Just an idea.

Redux

November 17 2004, 3:44 AM

Hmm - all I can recall about the hype regarding 'Apocalypse Now: Redux' was the addition of a longer Playboy Bunnies scene. And while at first that sounds interesting - you're right, I don't see how that makes for a better Heart of Darkness.

Now then, Donald Sutherland? Dude! Sure, he's the pride of New Brunswick, but how old do you think I am?!? Sans the Canadian thing, the closest I think one can come, is Matthew Broderick during his 'Ferris Beuller'; 'Project X' days of yore.

Re: Redux

You must be a young feller.

Mind you Marc Daniel, age is somewhat irrelevant in Hollywood movies, I mean look at ol' Mel Gibson playing William Wallace in Braveheart. In the world of cinema your dear old Dad could easily be Donald Sutherland. In Canada such things are common: Even in real life as an example, our former prime minister Pierre "the virile STUDmuffin" Trudeau was fatherin' kids in his 70's . . . but I digress.

My first choice for your dear Papa was Lorne Greene, but I think he's been dead for about 15 years. Mind you, as producer of your life on film you could have a computer generated version of Lorne Greene play your father (just like that dopey movie with Al Pacino - Simone).

Anyway, I got first dibs on Ed Asner. My Dad's the spittin' image of Ed. He's got a similar personality too.

Oh, and I skipped over the parts of that post where you talked about LOTR. I actually haven't seen all the movies in the series; actually only the first. Also, I haven't seen any of the 'Arry Potta movies 'cept the first one, so don't write any spoilers about that neither.

Cheers

Plains of Abraham

November 17 2004, 6:57 AM

Soory if I put too much out there regarding LOTR - but, since you saw Gandalf in the trailers, I figured it wasn't any harm (I will not apologize however saying the last 1/2 hour of 'Return of the King' is rather boring - thats just friendly advice).

And now that I have had some time to mull this over, I can think some more pertinent actors from the Great White North.

Dad - Leslie Nielsen (sorry Christopher Plummer)
Mom - Genevieve Bujold
Girlfriend - Cara Pifko
Best friend - Bruce McCulloch
My Favorite Uncle - Matt Frewer
Spirit guide - Jay Silverheels
and Me? Maybe a young Michael Ontkean (circa Slap Shot)

And if you're a native Azuza, I recommend 'The Sweet Hereafter'

I haven't lauded on my penchant for the Great White North lately - so... if anyone actually purchased 'Due South' or 'Wonderfalls' on DVD, I'd like to know its worth the 30 bucks respectively.

Moreover, (sticking with the Frostback motif) apart from creepy roles like from 'Dark City' or 'Phonebooth' - I didn't mind being associated with Mr. Kiefer Sutherland, until I recently discovered that the friggin' guy is gonna be a grandfather! (He's barely 40!!!) When is Paul Gross gonna get some mainstream work? C'mon remember 'Aspen Extreme'? When Teri Polo was REALLY hot? Hmm, it appears that my thoughts really aren't connected here.
