I just saw this this morning. I'd been waiting on it for forever. I really wish they were working harder for the Oscar push here. This may be my favorite movie of 2004 (New York/LA mid December). The critics are right on this one, it's fantastic.
Hmm - as long as I am putting in the obvious segue, Attica (as I am native to that region of New York State) reminds of an HBO movie that came out ooooo... about 7 years ago called 'Against The Wall' with Kyle MacLachlan and Anne Heche in a horrific retelling of the Attica prison riot.
Here is why I found that movie horrific at the time:
1) The violence (a little TOO realistic)
2) They showed it on Christmas. Christmas?!?!
3) It also had probably the scariest line I had ever heard in a movie - EVER! Basically, the prisoners had all the guards rounded up and bound, sitting in a large circle in the main yard, when one nameless gaurd whimpers to Kyle Maclachlan, "If I have to suck every prisoner's dick to get outta here alive, I will."
