"Flash! Aaaaahhhhh!"

Curiously absent from the ridiculously long list by the newbie is one of my personal favs - 'Flash Gordon'. I lost my VHS copy when the gf split - but... gives me ample reason for owning the DVD. But why you say? In point of fact 'Flash Gordon' IS a Generation X film - don't get me wrong, people in their early 20s or whatever make like it for it's cheesiness or cult status, but they really can't appreciate it. My reasons... (in order of importance)

1) Soundtrack by Queen. As quintessential as the soundtrack to 'Star Wars', 'Pulp Fiction', or 'Goldfinger'.

2) The lines. Mostly uttered by Brian Blessed (Prince Vultan): "Do you want to live forever? Hawkmen! DIVE!"; or "GORDON'S ALIVE?!?" and so forth.

3) With virtually no 'modern' special effects (it did come out in 1980 after all) it's still about as close a modern movie comes to the old serials from yesteryear.

I saw this flick in theaters and yes it was good.

In high school, my buddy and I used to listen to the soundtrack on the way to class in morning. Queen: The best way to start any day.

. . .FLASH! AAH AAAAAAAH! He save every one of us!

Melody Anderson as Dale - she was hot in an 80s lip gloss kind of way. Plus, she was in Manimal.

Ming the Merciless: Klytus I'm bored. What plaything can you offer me today?

Klytus: An obscure planet in the S-K system, your majesty. It's inhabitants refer to it as the planet Earth

Ming: How peaceful it looks.

(Ming unleashes weather havoc on Earth)

Ming: Hahahahahahahahaha

Klytus: Most effective your majesty. Will you destroy this....Earth?

Ming: Later. I like to play with things a while...before annihilation. ahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
