Ric - normally I don't put my 2 cents in (Ah - who are we kidding? Its my nature). But... why you so hard on 'Magnolia'? Granted, most of the film is self-indulgent tripe - but ya gotta admit, the shower of frogs at the end nearly paid off the 2 1/2 hours beforehand, no?

Unless someone can provide me with a reasonable interpretation of what that signifies (and 'it signifies nothing' is not ok as an answer), I'm gonna stick to my guns. I'm open to listen though.
My thoughts are that this is the most base example of laziness of thought. 'I'll just make it rain frogs and because there was some half-interesting dialogue and character development, it'll be OK because my meaning is that it means nothing. Anything can happen, Maybe it's your problem for not understanding my art, etc, etc. Maybe you are not clever enough to guess the significance, ha, ha ha.'

I liked the visual of raining frogs, but it was placed in a movie that otherwise made headway toward engaging the viewer so that you half care about the characters. All of a sudden it's like: fooled you! you weren't watching a real movie at all. Look at me be profound! I laugh at my audience!
Real art for me comes when something resonates with your emotions to the point when you just plain understand the artist's message.

I always kind of thought the raining frogs at the end signified a biblical plague of sorts.....an over the top warning to the characters to shape up and resolve their issues before its too late. If I remember correctly all the characters crises do reach some sort of resolution at the end, right?

Ya...it's been too long since I've seen it, but I recall some meaning to the frogs. (I'm sure Bossy can recall and recite this for us...)

Now whether or not PTA is pretensious regardless is another question...either way, he makes quality films that at least have some meaning and deep thought, so I'll take those over the alternatives most of the time.

Well, it's a tie between a & c movie afficionados! Magnolia has been suggested as a movie to make n2ads watch until comatose.  I cannot comment on how good or bad Magnolia is given that I haven't seen it.  I recommend some of the movies from this thread however: http://www.network54.com/Forum/message?forumid=192395&messageid=1039486394

Maybe he/she/it could watch all of these movies in an endless loop before being stomped on.  Anyone care to add another shite movie?
