The TV Board is the Death Star! Leave the dark side! Come over to the Movie Board! We're Jedis!

May the Force be with Us!

Ugh

We tried the animosity thing a few months ago with the other board - and frankly (Jedi-esque or otherwise) it really wasn't worth the hassle.

  • As of now there are currently 3 visitors, 3 guests + me logged in here at the movie bored.
  • Over there there are 9 visitors and 9 guests
  • Here the average post usually gets about 7 replies.  It is rare for any post to go over 100 responses.
  • Over there the average post probably illicits at least twice as many replies.  Many many posts have gone over 100.
  • The TV bored hardly confines itself to TV.  Currently they are playing some sort of "Assasin Game" where you have to type in a symbol of some sort to your posts in order not to be "cyber-killed".
  • This bored seems to confine itself almost exclusively to discussions about movies (and peripherally politics, other media, and occasionally religion).  At TV bored it's all over the show.  People post about all manner of things; not just TV.
  • This bored has been plagued lately by Trolls and fuckwit SPAMMERs.  I have not seen many of either over at the TV bored.  Most anons over at TV bored seem to be regulars, rather than jack-ass Trolls.  Over here I get the feeling that the fucktard Trolls that post ALL IN CAPS are not regulars, just junior/senior high school kids who are bored and have nothing better to do than post a load of verbal vomit here.
  • Overall, I would hardly characterize it as a SLAM DUNK triumph for the Movie bored.

Maybe you agree or disagree.  I still post here, but to be honest, there seems to be a lot more going on at the TV bored at any given time.  They even have the Chat room going on rare occasion.  I've never seen anyone here go to the Chat room.  This doesn't mean I'll stop posting at the movie bored, but really the place is sort of . . . . . . er . . . . . . sucky lately.  I say that hesitantly & not really because the regulars suddenly suck, but because of all the fucking dorks who post irrelevant shit here like trolls and SPAM.

I manage to never give up on this here board, despite the trolls, spammers, et al.

It does suck just a little bit more every time we lose another good regular (or they just don't frequent as much - the latest casualties seem to be Marney, J-Town, Hep C, JS, even Turkish to some extent) - perhaps I'm just trying not to do the same. Heck, I even stick around during summer.

But new blood comes (Ricardo and others) and if they have something to say (non-ICP-related, natch), then I hope they stay awhile. And Bossy could stand to post a little more, too!

I didn't know there was such a division amongst Odd tOdd visitors. That said, I did notice that a lot of TV people don't come over to the movie board. They just stay and talk to each other on their own board, the majority of conversations being silly (x is angry at y, etc.). Although those guys are fun, too, I think I prefer the movie board more.

In the beginning...

May 11 2005, 2:26 PM

...some of us posted on all four of tOdd's boreds. He has a music bored which is gone, and the pet bored was like a poorly-kept secret. When raising my arm wouldn't save my watch I usually made my way to the pet bored and there were a few others doing the same. Now the pet bored is the domain of pre-middle schoolers and oxygen thieves trying to figure out how many ways they can spell "guinea pig".

I'm back here for now. We'll see what happens.

I like eggrolls and crab rolls, crab legs, but not frog legs.

I check the poll board every once in awhile, but I equate it to visiting a school playground during recess. Fun for those involved, but the adults would rather be elsewhere. The TV board just scares me. You need a secret password or something. I like this board, but could do without the "I cant remember the name of this film, but the main character wore a chicken on top of his head...." bs.

The music board still exists...technically. There's maybe one post a week.

ah yes...

May 11 2005, 3:16 PM

that was a big year for chickens in Hollywood. Too bad "Fry Chicken: Fry Harder" was such a bomb at the BO.

BTW, I finally registered my "name", but dude101 was taken. I am now the new and improved dude101.1

I agree with one of the previous posts:  Over at TV bored there has been a lot of "But X said this, so now I'm gonna publish X's e-mail address and X's real name, and . . . etc.  Fortunately there hasn't been any of that here that I've read.  Nobody seems intent on outing anyone here.  I regard that as a good thing.

On the other hand, the number of posters over at TV bored is so much greater that they often get a much more lively, interesting mix of opinions.  I enjoy that.

And yes, a lot of regulars have disappeared from this bored.  Mind you, many of those same regulars were also posting at TV bored and they've disappeared from there as well.

I think a lot of TV bored posters don't post here because they think that if they post here they have to confine themselves to talking about movies.  Maybe some of them don't want to only talk about movies.

Finally, I think this place is a lot less hostile.  There used to be mud slinging and name calling (maybe I'm characterizing the place incorrectly, feel free to agree or disagree with me).  Maybe that's a good thing or a bad thing.  I don't know.  It depends on you.  The most recent heated discussion was the one about Todd's review of Hotel Rwanda.  That was the one where J.S. actually called someone out.  I didn't contribute to that one because I haven't actually seen the movie.
