i think this movie was in black and white but maybe not, its a number of years old. a group of people are traveling on a liner when for some reason it sinks, they are shipwrecked on an island where one of the servants (the butler i believe )marries the rich daughter. later they are saved but the butler goes back to being a butler again

I'm pretty sure this movie is 'The admirable Chrichton', 1957 where a family with their butler are stranded on an island. Chrichton becomes the leader and is just about to marry one of the family daughters when they are rescued and he must revert to being just the butler
