It is post apocalypse. People are living in underground cities. Humans are no longer born, they are grown in test tubes.
Emotions are controlled through drugs. The plot is about a man who stops taking his drugs and falls in love with a woman.
They plan to escape but the woman is discovered and terminated.
He looks for her but only finds her next replacement growing in a test tube.
He decides to escape on his own.
As he reaches the surface the police finally give up chasing him because it is costing them more than he is worth.
When he reaches the surface he is attacked by dwarfs who are living on the edge of the underground city.
He finally makes it to the surface where it is bleak and hot.
The movie ends with his figure silhoetted against a red rising sun in a wind blow desert environment.
Does anyone know the name of this movie? I saw it around 1975-1980 or so.
