Here's a movie the whole family can enjoy (preview)

Okay ... most of you (those who have already seen The Shining) get the point. This preview used exact scenes and quotes from the movie and yet completely lied about its content. This clip is a satire of Hollywood marketing.

A movie can be made to look like anything if cleverly edited. I've seen several movies based on an interesting preview that turned out to be terrible flicks. Conversely, I've avoided many movies, based on a misleading preview, which turned out to be good DVD rentals later.

When I saw the previews for the films, Fight Club, The Truman Show, and About Schmidt, I prejudged the films to be typical Hollywood tripe, and refused to watch them. When I finally saw them (through friends' recommendations) I was astonished to find that each of these movies made provocative social commentary--not at all what their previews presented them to be. I was really peeved that their respective marketers promoted these films so poorly.

Maybe I'm just miffed that I am not part of the "target audience" for movie promotions. Maybe the previews have to be misleading or the movie will fail at the box office, I don't know. Still, I take offense when a movie's preview lies to me about its content.

YIKES... I didn't think a direct link would attempt to embed the movie. I expected it to show up as a link ... sorry about that. (Obvious n00b here)

I am right there with you...I missed 'The Mexican' thinking it would be alot of Julia Roberts looking cute and not doing much and it is truly an engaging film. Fight Club? The same thing [and I had to be forced to watch it... I'm glad I did.]

I had a girlfriend I called shan once. She was nice, a little too slutty, not the brightest lightbulb.
