Business Casual?

Sorry off of Mov-ay topics but here goes:

What constitutes business casual? I just got a new temp job for a office where they are spouting the dress code business casual. Now, when I came to work today I wore a casual pair of black pants, nice top and clean gym shoes. I felt I looked actually nicer than some of the scrubs working there who wear wearing hoodie sweatshirts. At the end of the day I was told that their "business casual" has no room for gym shoes. What??! I actually repeated what she said because I wasn't sure if I heard her right. She then asked if I had a "medical condition" that would cause me to HAVE to wear gym shoes! Uhhh...nooo...I agreed that on Monday I would wear dress shoes.
SO WTF?
Are they picking on the new temp or does anyone actually know what constitutes "business casual?" Not like I am going to start an uproar with them or anything, I'm just wondering.

Are you a guy?  I've always thought you were a guy:

Business casual: How about tan Chinos pants with belt, a blue or red Polo shirt and Nunn Bush shoes (under $40.00)

I would call that business casual.  I don't think you need to wear a tie.

No, no, no.

Business casual:

Flip-flops, a speedo and a fish-net tank-top.

Got it?

That's beach wear Nasty_Gash!

Then again maybe Camda works at a beach.

What sort of establishment is this that you are gainfully employed at?  Perhaps if you could be more specific then we'd have a better idea of what kind of advice we could give. Like what kind of office.

Well, the office is sort of a "single point of contact" hotline for this drug company that makes asthma medicine. At least thats what they keep telling me.
Anyhoo-this means I will be on the phones and will not be meeting any big wigs or clients. So why can't they incorporate comfort? No ones going to see me except for the other saps doing the same thing as me!
Flip Flops are great, but I prefer my squishy slippers!
Oh and I am a girl.

Squishy slippers, a thong and a fish-net tank-top, sans the bra thingy.
