Um, this is still a MOVIE board right? I'm not sure anymore.
Anyway, I first came to this board to find a movie, and actually from another board found out that the movie I was looking for was Eye of God.
Seeing as how Blockbuster has ditched their stores, and pretty much rely now on their online store to carry "less popular" movies.. I couldn't find Eye of God anywhere. So, that prompted me to buy it. I was a little nervous, cause buying a crappy movie sucks. Plus, I didn't have much to go on, so I had no idea whether this was a good movie or not.
SPOILER FREE!!!
Overall rating 8/10
Expectation rating 5/5 (whether it held up/surpassed my expectations)
Initially I feared that this would be just another "I saw this movie 5 years ago that ROCKED" that when viewed again, isn't quite as good as you remember. But, not only was it everything I remember, it was even more so.
The film is centered around 2 main charecters. Tom Spencer -played by Nick Stahl, and Ainsley DuPree -played by Martha Plimpton. The film is non-linear and is split between the two story lines as they unfold. I believe the sequence goes something like... Tom's line.. 6-2-3-4-5-7-1-8. Ainsley's line is pretty sequential. Although both differant plot lines are intermixed. It's done in a way though, that the viewer isn't lost jumping back and forth. The scenes are set up well enough, that you can easily figure out whether it's before or after scenes the "turning point". It's not a "figure out" movie, (like Memento). The viewer is for the most part shown how the movie ends (in it's sequential order). But what's important, and what keeps the interest is what are the events leading up to the movie.
The acting is very well done, and doesn't leave anything to be disired. The filming/script turn a very basic plot into something that grabs ahold of your attention.
The movie is only 84 mins long. So it is a little short, but it seems to fit perfectly with the movie. You're not really left with the feeling that it runs too long or short.
the basic plot/summary is:We see two stories told over four time lines, which wind down to a devastating ground zero collision, as we watch a double tragedy unfold in a small Oklahoma town. Tom is a 14year old boy living with his aunt, and Ainsley is about to meet her prison penpal/boyfriend for the first time.
the setting is small town Oklahoma, where everyone seems to be moving out.
Anyway, I just thought I'd let you guys all know. Sometimes movies like this slip through the cracks. Plus, this is a MOVIE board... right?
I don't know if I recommend running out and buying off hand. I do think it's good enough to make any collection a little better. Especially for any fan of Indie of nonlinear films. But I would suggest that if you can find it at a video rental, I'd pick it up. And for you Netflixers out there, why not add it to your queue. |
