Comingsoon.net has a report on Kong only opening with an estimated 9.7 million, way below their expectations! So Universal is hoping that there is good word of mouth!
My brother and His Wife saw on opening night and they both said that it was a very good movie! I will be checking it out this weekend!
I agree with what you say! Wednesday is probably not the strongest day for this movie, plus you have last minute Xmas Shopping and stuff going on too! But do you think it will hit or pass 100 M in its first 5 days?
I read the same story at JoBlo.com, and flicks like 'Catch Me IF You Can' and friggin' 'Pokemon'(?) made more on a Wednesday opening.
And I don't buy this 'well it's 3 hour movie' excuse for tepid returns. So was LOTR and Titanic. Yeah, it's not summer - didn't 'Spiderman 2' make like 40 million on it's Wednesday opening? 'King Kong' won't break 100 million this weekend, but as I look to see what else is coming out in the weeks ahead, I think it's fair to say it'll stay #1 for at least a month.
