Just watched Immortal( 2004) and it was very Blade Runnerish in feel. These French Filmmakers do some really "far-out" stuff.

still haven't absorbed this entire movie yet

thoughts?

Nice! I've been trying to find this flick for ages! (I can only come across the French version in my one-horse town though). From what I have seen, it looks to be visually incredible.

Immortel ad vitam was horrible

I saw this film last summer in the theater. This film was horrible IMO. The plot was incomprehensible and I didn't think the vaunted CGI graphics were that great or artistic. They looked amateurish; as if the animators made a decision to go for less realistic CGI graphics to emphasize the fantasy nature of the film but their artistic talents were not up to the their task. It is based on French comics or anime and if you were a fan of that, you'd be a fan of the film I suppose. I think a lot of plot development was skipped under the assumption that the audience would know the back story.

To compare this to Blade Runner is ridiculous IMO. The sets, graphics, costumes, and music created an atmosphere that like that pyramind floated on nothing. Blade Runner's visuals created a feel and mood that matched the plot perfectly so one enhanced the other.

Immortel was one of those movies that I wanted to walk out of but I kept waiting and hoping that something would happen to justify its reputation. At the end, I regretted spending $8 or whatever on admission.
