The 'Krull' post got me thinking. Aside from that movie (I chose to see 'Krull' over 'Metalstorm - the Descruction of Jared Syn'), I ALWAYS pick the wrong movie to see, if I am forced between one or the other. The very, very sad examples:
1996: Saw, 'A Very Brady Sequel', passed on, 'Trainspotting'.
2002: Saw, 'Deuces Wild', passed on, 'Spider-Man'
1989: Saw, 'UHF', passed on, 'Batman'
1988: Saw, 'License to Drive'. passed on, 'Die Hard'
1999: Saw, 'Wild, Wild West', passed on, anything else.
First, I saw it in this hick of a town in Ohio on opening weekend with every slack jawed yokel within a 20 mile radius.
Second, I saw this bit where Kevin Smith went on an on about how in the late 90s, he was first commissioned to write the next 'Superman' movie and his dealings with Hollywood execs. Evidently, the main producer at that time was the same producer for the original 'Batman'. The producer wanted all these not-so-crazy scenes written into the script - however, the producer was adamant about having a giant spider in the 3rd act.
Kevin Smith: Excuse me, but did you say you wanted a SPIDER in the last act?
Producer: Absolutely!
Kevin Smith: Uh....
Producer: No, no, it'll be great, ya know why?
Kevin Smith: Uh...
Producer: Because spiders are the most vicious in all of the insect kingdom.
Sufficed to say, certain people couldn't be brought on board for the movie back then, so the project was put on hold. Which was fine for Smith, as he thought that it was just weird for Superman to fight a giant spider.
During his interview, Kevin Smith said, "Yeah, I had no idea how much influence this guy had, 'cause I went to see 'Wild Wild West' back in '99, and what appeared in the 3rd act of that film? A GIANT FUCKING SPIDER!!"
Yeah I heard that interview too... whacky how stupid producers can have weird control over films... I guess it's their money... But yeah I'm thinking back and I thikn I've made pretty good decisions over the years, however it does take me about two months to decide what to watch... it has to be put through the decision matrix and left to marinate for a couple weeks before ever considering a conclusion...
The only movie that slipped would be Street Fighter with our hero Van Dam. As an excuse however this was when I was extremely young and the matrix was basically just two squares yes vs no, now it has maybe.
