So I raided my buddy's DVD library ('cause there is nothing good out there - WHAT THE F*@K IS WITH THIS MADEA'S FAMILY FLICK?!?), for the weekend, and came up with rather surprising results.
The Deer Hunter - "C'mon Nicky! It's gonna be alright!" I hadn't watched this in over 20 years. This is when DeNiro was the shit. This is when Walken was a friggin' crazy. This is when Meryl Streep was hot. (I do still have a problem with the Appalachians looking like the Rockies though)
Raging Bull - I do not see what the big deal is. Who-hoo, you gained 60 pounds, so did my Dad. And, you can't sympathize with the character - he beats his wife, he cheats, he drinks, etc. Also, I'm pretty sure no one swore THAT much in the 40s. Eh - I like 'Rocky' movies better.
Proof - Recently I have begun not to hate Ms. Paltrow, and this derivation of 'Good Will Hunting' is a suprisingly good vehicle of hers. Anthony Hopkins has a nice supporting role as a math genius-slowly-going-mad, and it's nice for a flick that doesn't try to get to cerebral. Donnie Darko is in it too - and his hair is really starting to bug me!
Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy - Like most, I thought this movie was average at best. Then I started watching A LOT of British stuff ('The Office'; 'Spaced'; 'Bottom/Young Ones'), and realized that HHGTTH is British Humor, and on a second viewing - actually pretty funny. And I had forgotten how cool the opening song was as well. |
