I saw this movie yesterday and absolutely loved it. But the second I walked out of the theater, I knew Todd was going to trash it. It seems like every time I see a movie that is like this one and like it, Todd hates it, and I feel like a dope for liking it because he's usually right. This time I was happy with his review. This movie is better than the original Clerks. It seemed like more of a movie with a plot that sort of had a beginning middle and end. I love the dialogue, the conversations are hilarious in this one.
Jay and Silent Bob made me laugh my ass off.
Jay: "Sometimes I wish I'd done a little more with my life instead of just hanging out in front of places. Maybe be an animal doctor. Why not me? I like seals and shit. Or maybe be an astronaut. Go into space and shit. Be the first to find a new alien lifeform... and fuck it. People would be, like, "there he goes. Boy fucked a martian once."
It wasn't as emotionally satisfying as "Chasing Amy" or "Dogma" and I didn't laugh as hard as I did with "Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back." Still, it was an appropriate sequel to "Clerks" and I enjoyed myself more than I thought I would.
It helps to expect the worst. That way, you are more likely to be pleasantly surprised.
As for Jay and Bob, I found myself enjoying Randal's character and dialog a lot more than their antics. The whole, "I'm taking it back" sequence had me laughing really hard. Also, his soliloquy to Dante near the end of the movie really worked. I was moved and it made for a fulfilling ending to the "Clerks" universe. Maybe it was emotionally satisfying, after all.
Clerks 2 was everything it needed to be.
the (newb)teens reasons for not yet laying and kissing his girlfriend is as golden as the corporate gold-statue of Mooby-the-cow(i'll have a cow-tipper w\fries).
and KrazyKitty and her,umm his donkey was worth the price of all the chi in china...
i laughed as much as i did with the other KSmith's.
I think tOdd should give Mallrats a chance. Sure it was plotless for the most part; with the characters walking about the mall talking about hypothetical superhero sex. But it was a fun Smith movie. Yeah, it did horrendously at the box office but it has since picked up a large fanbase. I may be biased though; Mallrats was my gateway movie into the View Askewniverse.
OK - I know I'm 3 months behind, just deal with it.
WOW! 'Clerks 2', quite possibly the biggest disappointment I've ever seen. When the Hell did Kevin Smith turn into such a pussy? I never saw/wanted to see 'Jersey Girl', but I am under the suspicion that the two movies are similar. EVERY time, the film was beginning to go in a direction I wanted, it veered off into bullsh*t land.
Here are my misgivings (and I don't think I am being too harsh here)
1. Cinematography - The film should have at attempted to have been shot within the vein of the first film. This one looked so straight-to-video.
2. Sucky Characters - Aside from the godfearing underling, everyone sucked this time around. A babbling Randal with emotions? WTF?! And How could Jay and Silent Bob NOT be funny? I dunno. But they weren't.
3. Predictable Jokes/Shitty Plot- I literally anticipated every joke. And what the f*#k was with the Lifetime Network of a plot? Where's the conflict with choosing Rosario Dawson?
4. What about the fans? - There should have been FAR MORE cameos (sorry, Ben Affleck and Jason Lee's surprisingly unfunny ones don't count).
5. The French are idiots - I honestly don't see how this film garnered an 8 MINUTE standing ovation at the Cannes Film Festival (I don't see how any film could, really). So, I am forced to conclude that all French are socially inept, retarded, or brain damaged.
