Who else liked this movie? I do! one of my all time favorite movies since i was 8. i had the Mcdonald cup,s the cards, a magazine, a t-shirt, played the game and had some action figures, hell i even had a crush on Madonna after seeing this movie!
I recommend this movie! didn't "Sin City" reminded anyone of this movie?
Sin City was a much better film because it had a darker edge to it. However, the comic book come to life aspect is similar between the two films. As I recall, the set designers of Dick Tracy used the same colors in all the scenes. So everytime you see the color yellow, it's the same shade of yellow. Everytime you see blue, it's the same shade of blue, etc.
With that said, I thought Dick Tracy was so so. What is kind of sad is that Pacino's over-the-top villain is not that different than his performances in quite a few other movies. The film was jam-packed with stars in smaller roles and cameos. It's been several years since I saw the movie. I only remember a few scenes. Pacino slamming the piano cover on Mandy Patinkin's hands while having an argument with Madonna. I remember Dustin Hoffman's Mumbles character. I remember the The Kid liked to eat & they had a montage of him saying "Let's eat" or something.
To me, Dick Tracy seemed to be an attempt to recreate Batman's success with pastel colors instead of the dark and somber mood Burton created.
I wouldn't call the colors in the movie pastels. They were bold, jewel tones. This movie came out when I was 5 so I didn't get to see it in the theater, but I do remember all the hype surrounding it, what with McDonalds and such. Over the years, I saw it in bits and pieces while clicking through the channels. They showed it on TCM a few months ago and I watched it all the way through, and I must say that I liked it a lot more than I thought I would. It kind of reminded me of Roger Rabbit. Not nearly as noir as Sin City though, not that it's a bad thing.
I thought DT was totally over hyped and could never live up to the marketing that went along with this film. Oh how wrong I was. When I finally saw it in broadcast, I was so bitter I had missed it on the big screen. Great numbers done by Madonna and Mandy Patankin. I think this was one of the better Disney films... [this was Disney wasn't it?]
