Seriously. Where is all of the AAA Oscar fodder flicks? This is the time of year you can count on and there hasn't been much at all I've wanted to see. I can't see another flick I'm looking forward to until Christmas for The Good Shepherd.

WTF 2006!?

What?! Are you saything that 'Rocky Balboa' and/or 'Unaccompanied Minors' isn't Oscar worthy?!

Seriously though, you're right - there haven't been barely any 'quality' flicks this year. Which means that tripe worse than 'Crash' (arguably the WORST CHOICE FOR BEST PICTURE EVER! - that's right, move over 'Titanic') will probably be nominated - dammit.

However, maybe that means 'The Departed' will get some nods. Did anyone see of it? It's pretty friggin' awesome!

Seriously, let's brainstorm 5 flicks that have a shot/deserve to be best picture contenders.

I can't see much of anything. Departed might make it. Flags of Our Fathers is possible because of the constant chub the Academy sports for Clint. Little Miss Sunshine maybe? I dunno.

Since it looks like a pretty grim year quality-wise, methinks the Academy will opt to go across the pond for a nomination. But let's see... possible Oscar nods going to:

Little Children
The Queen
The Good Shepard

and of course Snakes on a Plane

What about Pirates of the C 2? That has got to get nominated for makeup or sets [or both].

Personally, I'm a big musical geek and I'm waiting for "Dream Girls" which comes out Xmas day. [and if you like Motown music, you might want to make a point to see this one...the soundtrack will probably out-earn the ticket sales! ]
