I was driving in my car today & I heard Satisfaction by the Stones & immediately thought of the scene from Apocalypse Now where they are water skiing and listening to Satisfaction. It's a very memorable movie scene for me.
Some others I like are . . .
The scene from Terminator II where the T101 (Arnie) is chasing the T1000. I think it is one of the best chase scenes I've ever seen in the movies.
A few others . . .
When the Millenium Falcon approaching the Death Star in Star Wars.
The final scene in Heat with Pacino and de Niro.
Another from Apocalypse Now: the helicopters attacking the V.C. village to the music of Wagner's Ride of the Valkeries.
Oooooo... good topic! Let's see (and I realize these are a little subjective, but...)
Charles Bronson's first appearance at the train station in 'Once Upon A Time In The West' (Note: Same could be said for Henry Fonda in same movie)
Opening shot from 'Blade Runner'
The moments leading up to Vincent D'Onofrio's demise in 'Full Metal Jacket'
The 'drug-buy-gone-bad' scene in 'Boogie Nights'
The "KHAN!! KHAN!!" scene in 'Star Trek II'
Scene in 'Shaun of the Dead' where Simon Pegg and Nick Frost discuss between themselves where they should hold up after the zombie attacks and what their strategy should be.
When Anakin Skywalker rises as Darth Vader for the first time.
When David Dunn (Bruce Willis) is told that he's about to be the soul survivor of the train wreck in Unbreakable. (the blood coming from that dying guys torso always gets me)
The scene from Indiana Jones (Last Crusade), where young Indiana (River Phoenix) turns into old Indiana (Ford), and then gets punched in the face. (POW!)
Crotch shot in Basic Instinct. (you know what I'm talking about)
I remember most of those scenes rather well. It's been a while though since I saw Boogie Nights, so refresh my memory about the 'drug-buy-gone-bad' scene in 'Boogie Nights'. I don't remember what occured in that scene.
The whole part of Apocalypto when the captives are brought into the Mayan city. Frikkin' fabulous. I think Todd can corroborate that.
The last scene in Chocolate was pretty memorable as well.
I liked the "KHAN" scene.
Haven't seen the last installment of Star Wars, so I cannot comment on the transformation of Anakin into Darth. The "Luke, I am your father." kinda ranks up there as a memorable scene because when we all first saw it I guess we were like WTF? Luke . . . Lord Vader. . . related???

C'mon - Sister Christian! Alfred Molina spazzed out! Asian kid in the background setting off firecrackers! Gunfight and wackiness ensues. A great scene.

I thought it was Jesse's Girl or something by Journey he was listening to when he went completely nuts. I do remember that scene.
When I heard "drug deal gone bad" I thought of when he had hit rock bottom and was working as a male prostitute. I guess I am confusing scenes in my mind.
Az - you're not mistaken, BOTH 'Sister Christian' and 'Jesse's Girl' are the songs in the scene - I can't believe I haven't tried to find a portion of it on youtube or something...
2. "To Kill a Mockingbird" - The courtroom scene with Gregory Peck http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZYQOWfMGA_k (unfortunately, i couldn't find a clip of the part where Reverend Sykes tells Scout "Stand up - your father is passing.")
Here's the ONE problem I have with that scene. The medium close up on Mark Walkberg halfway through. It's like nearly a minute! And he's not really acting. He's not really doing anything. It's just weird, like some odd spaced-out stare with almost a smirk thrown in - I just don't get it.
"Night of the Hunter": The children laying in the rowboat, floating down the creek and trying to stay hidden as Mitchum rides above on the bank singing "Leaning". Gaaaaaah! NOTHING ever good is happening in a movie when somebody starts singing an actual hymn.
"Dancer in the Dark": Execution scene.
"Reservoir Dogs": "Stuck in the Middle". S'all I'm sayin'.
"The Ring" (US version): The horse on the ferry.
There are about twenty tons more that I can't recall, but I's sure I'll post later. Just like when someone asks me my favorite films, I can't do it, or limit myself to a few.
Yes, the 'Horse on the Ferry' scene from 'The Ring' traumatized (sp?) me so much, that after my initial viewing of the movie in the theater - I have yet, to this day, watched that scene on my own DVD of 'The Ring', I just skip it entirely.
MD, I gotta disagree on the Wahlberg shot in that scene. Granted, Wahlberg ain't the best actor out there, but the intent is to pull you into his mind as he's watching the situation go from bad to batshit insane. It's intense.
IIRC, PTA does that "hovering a bit too long on an actor" bit quite a few times in Boogie, just not for nearly as long a time frame as he does in this scene.

"It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World": Jonathan Winters losing it on the kid's bicycle in the middle of the desert highway. I thought I was going to wet myself.
"The Odd Couple" (ORIGINAL): The "cleaned-up" poker game. "He cleaned the cards!"; "Who threw a pickle on the floor???"
"Young Frankenstein": Madeleine Khan brushing her hair and singing "The Battle Hymn of the Republic".
I was surprised that I was so moved by Dancer in The Dark. I don't think I anticipated that the movie would have such a strong effect on me.
Speaking of having a strong effect . . . . One very intense movie scene is in Platoon when Chris and Bunny go into the hut while the soldiers are searching a Vietnamese village for weapons caches and hiding V.C..
MD you magnificent bastard that is truly a bad ass scene when Lightnin' boy and Steve Vai are cuttin heads... bad ass. Right up there with another musical duel from the Legend of 1900.
*Burt Landcaster's parts in Field of dreams
*end of Usual Suspects
*when Tom Cruise "kidnaps" Dustin Hoffman in Rain Man
*when Matt Damon goes nuts and splits Jude Law's face open with an orr in Talented Mr. Ripley
*When Toad gets shot in the face in the elevator in the Untouchables
*when Peter Sellers walks out on the water ant the end of Being There.
*in the Remake of Lord of the Flies when they drop a boulder on Piggy's head
I guess most of these just shocked me.
You know alot of people like that scene in the courthouse. But for me there is a certain part in Boondock Saints goes from entertaining to way over the top, culminating with the scene where the three take the courthouse and kill the dude presumably getting away scott free.
so, im not sure if this counts.. its a movie.. but its an anime.. in the movie The end of Evangelion, i think the most memorable shot would be Unit 01 getting crucified....
or 3rd impact happening... either/or..
