I don't know much about Star Trek, but isn't that the original enterprise? So is this a prequel of sorts, and if so, will they have other actors playing the TV cast. That would suck big ones, and I don't even like Star Trek.
The last time I saw a trek movie in the theatre would be back in a my young teenagery days when I saw the humpback whale one. Not a big trek fan, but I will confess that when I watched First Contact on VHS, I thought it was pretty kickass. And I will also confess that my boss and his wife dragged me through the Star Trek experience at the Las Vegas Hilton back in Nov of 06, and that was pretty cool. (Although, by Vegas standards, it was sort of ho-hum, since they also dragged me to Blue Man and a cirque show.)
Anyway, this is a round-about way of saying that I'll probably go ahead and see this one come next Christmas.
I actually flipped by one of them recently. I think it was IV when they were back on present-day Earth. They were sneaking Chekov out of a hospital and it was totally keystone cops with the goofy music and all that. Horrible.
Aw, c'mon...ya gotta love "nuclear WESsels"! I'll watch it, but it's no "Wrath of Khan" by any stretch.
I've had to listen to months of all the ways Abrams' production is sullying the original series/storyline and how the casting is all f'ed up, etc., etc. I made a decision, though, that I'm going to give the new film a try without pre-judging, and see what they do with it. After all, they can't keep using Shatner & Co. forever, heck, they're down two already. Jeez, it has to be better than "Enterprise". Has to.
CAN NOT WAIT! I saw that trailer in the theater and I was the only idiot clapping. Look at the word ENTERPRISE rise from the construction with Nimoy giving the classic "SPACE... The final frontier" intro.... CHILLS UP MY SPINE!
Restarting the franchise is a stroke of genius. I think that if they could pull it off for Batman, they can REALLY pull it off here. Let's face it... Star Trek was going nowhere and it is a HUGE money fountain kind of franchise. New Trek = new fans = millions more $$$.
J. J. Abrams has a challenge and I think that he can do it.
