Star Trek should go get gay married and then be insulted when it wasn't invited to it's own gay marriage, but then say that the invitations to the gay marriage were mailed out and that Star Trek doesn't know what the hell happened.
Cool! It seems to me that JJ Abrams is sort of becoming a sort of quality stamp. In other words, if his name is attached to something as writer/dir/producer, its not going to waste your time.
I disagree. He's a red flag. Anything Lost post season two sucked, and Cloverfield is one of the worst movies I've seen in theaters in the last few years.
I dug Cloverfield, I actually just started Lost Season 3 (the first four episodes), and although it hasn't grabbed me yet like the first and second, there's way worse television out there.
I liked Cloverfield too, thought the continuous scene with the army attacking the monster while they were on opposite sides of the street was pretty awesome. Of course I liked it alot better the first time I watched it mainly due to the theater I watched it in had some of the best sound ever which, to me, made that movie.
And putting out pure shit knowing that people will still see it. It was essentially 4 scenes.
Scene 1: Holy fuck, there's a monster, let's run through New York.
Scene 2: Holy fuck, there's a monster. Let's run through the subway!
Scene 3: Holy fuck, there's a monster. Let's climb this building.
Scene 4: Holy fuck, there's a monster. Let's hope it doesn't knock our helicopter out of the sky.
Credits.
I didn't mind the hand-held camera; I didn't mind the poor acting. I did, however, mind the fact that the JJ blew his monster load and then decided that was close enough to the whole movie.
JJ Abrams is good at what he does. I thought Cloverfield was OK for being a monster movie. And that was what was wrong with it - it was a monster movie. C'mon... a huge monster rampaging through NYC? Not likely.
The original Star Trek character base can do with a more modern look to it. I'm a big Trekker, but I'll give this a shot. Hell, I was wicked PISSED about a Battlestar Galactica remake and I was WAY wrong on that one. I'll give it a shot.
