When they say its sorta Forrest Gumpy, they ain't kidding. Gumpy but not nearly as much fun, and everything is brown and goldy. I mean they even have him learning to walk all dramatic.
Way too long, and all the homespun wisdom which was sorta fresh when Gump came out now just seems trite and forced.
However they did Brad Pitt as an old man was pretty cool, a whole tug boat portion in the center of the film was really well-shot and put together, and a running gag about being struck by lightening were really the only high points of the film. Otherwise I even have trouble recommending it on DVD as its three hours of life that is truly been there and done that. I'd have an easier time recommending a rewatch of Forrest Gump than this. Gump is funnier, more poignant, and overall a much better movie.
Oh well, you can't win them all. David Fincher needs to get back to thrillers and the fucked up shit we love so much, or even a kick ass music video or 2. Like this one:
Really let down. Not Fincher's (or Pitt's) best movie at all. I understand Eric Roth wanting to recapture that recognition he got with Forrest Gump but his script relies too much on that template. Not only does Button rarely do anything interesting, when he does, they rarely elaborate on it. It's often seen in a short montage. Worse still, is that he almost never, ever exhibits one iota of emotion. Why doesn't he ever get happy, sad or angry? I saw him actually come to live once, and that's when he bolted to get an abulance for Daisy. Another major gripe is I can not stand these narrated flashback flicks. Just let the story happen, don't read it to me from a diary. The movie could have still ended up there without CONSTANTLY having to break up the momentum for a five minute diary reading break. Nothing would have been taken away from the story, and would have ended exactly the same.
Probably sound too harsh, but this is overall a missed opportunity and I expected much more.
Yeah,
Kinda ditto on what Dante said. I thought Todd's review was right on, and his assessment of Fincher was pretty right on too. It's kinda like you say his name and I think The Game and Fight Club, and hey pretty cool, anything he does must be cool. But its not.
Speaking of Pitt, in line to buy a movie about monster trucks in best buy, I noticed that one of those style magazines had a picture of Pitt with an awesome 80's-esque mustache just wondering if anybody else saw it.
After that I went home chopped down some trees, built a cottage and restored my corvette with all hand machined parts....
I swear I'm not gay for talking about Brad Pitt's mustache...
I dug it. It's not one of my all time favorites, but it's not horrible either. I'm glad I watched it. I would say it's worth the rental and if your curious, go see it in the theater.
I loved it. Definitely the type to go see with a girlfriend. I dunno what else everyone was expecting. I got what i thought i was gonna get. Don't go to this movie lookin for action.
