I'm surprised at you Dante. How in the hell is anyone supposed to make a movie outta that book? Looks a lot more promising than the travesty that was and is Cat in the Hat. I've actually watched the preview a couple of more times just for the Arcade Fire song, and now want to see it. I will report on it in October if it is deemed necessary.
BTW: Was watching Silent Hill the last couple of nights and about halfway through realized, hey that's f'n Sean Bean!
I heard Sean Bean was the underlying force bringing this book to life on the big screen. A close friend to Sean actually said... " Sean is REALLY excited about this film, he's always loved the book." -GMA
from some loose gossip, Sean has worked late nights doing cameos (in costume of course) trying to put the finishing touches on his dream.
Even Harrison Ford has a small hand in it... doing voice dubbs and gifted some old word working pieces to the film... <--- read this somewhere

I dunno... could be a HUGE hit
"How in the hell is anyone supposed to make a movie outta that book"
Exactly. Don't.
Also, if Sean Bean thought this movie would kick ass, he would have taken the lead role.
As for Silent Hill, don't get me started. While I appreciate it in the same way that I appreciate, say, the lesser parts of The Bible, I must admit to being disappointed. I'm a big fan of the games, the first one, on which it was based, had a male for the lead role. Clearly changed to a chick to capitalize on the girl power action star bullshit.
Or maybe they didn't think anyone would believe Sean Bean would have trouble battling creatures from hell. I dunno.
I just got done playing the newest game. I totally dig the vibe the games create, and the soundtrack. It would be nice if after finishing it they could have unlocked some of the cut-scenes so I could have re-watched them. Some of them were pretty cool and intense.
ETA: Actually while walking the dog this morning and thinking about Silent Hill, it was a very womancentric movie. Let's see, the main character, the police woman, the daughter, the evil cult leader woman. I guess its one of them new-fangled "feminist" films.

I'll give Where the wild things are a chance. crossing my fingers on it being good.
You guys are teasing me with this game talk. I've been known to play a video game or two and want to join in but I'm in fear of tainting the sanctity of the movie boards.
Alright, The Road officially comes out on the same day as this. Finally something concrete. It also helps to alleviate my worry that the studio wasn't very impressed with this because initially its delay was in the spring dumping grounds, and now it's coming closer to awards season.
Probably said this on here before, but if you haven't read the book, do so. It can be read in less than a day and is worth every ounce of hype.
