I can't say I "hated" it, but it wasn't very good. I don't even think it's worth it for the DVD. I wasn't expecting Superbad, but I wasn't expecting this either. I wouldn't even call it a comedy. It's either poorly marketed or deliberately misleading to draw an audience, but it's pretty much straight drama through and through. Hader/Wig have about five scenes in the flick, Ryan Reynolds is an awful miscast, I think I like that lead guy from Squid and the Whale pretty well. But really, that Twilight girl is a really friggin good actress. It's a shame she's only going to be that girl from Twilight for the next decade.
If he would have listened to the first poll we would have a review for dumb Monsters VS Aliens. Just go see Observe and Report or I Love you man. Or Anvil! I would dig an Anvil reveiw cuz I haven't seen it yet.
I thought it was an interesting flick. I hadn't heard of it before seeing it - hadn't seen so much as a preview... which I'm assuming helped my perception of it. They played around a lot with some interesting themes, taken from the books they kept mentioning.
It was definitely marketed wrong. Mentioning Superbad at all in any of the previews was a lie... unless they had said "FROM THE PEOPLE WHO BROUGHT YOU SUPERBAD - COMES A MOVIE THAT IS NOTHING AT ALL LIKE SUPERBAD."
I gave it a few thumbs up for trying with the esoteric intellectual humor. It caught me off guard, that's for sure.
