Wow. I was sure this would be awful. I had to go see it at work tonight.

I'm happy to say it's one of the best flicks I've seen all year. Out of several, this is the most faithful adaptation of the book I've ever seen. The animation is obviously stunning, Bob Hoskins and Gary Oldman do great, but I was shocked at Carrey. I thought he would be obnoxious and over the top like always (the guy is turning into Robin Williams annoying) but he was relatively calm and subtle the whole time.

And I think that's what I liked, I kept hearing that this is no good for kids but dismissed it, but it really isn't. It isn't "cartoony" at all. It's almost entirely dialogue driven, there are no whacky antics, the language they use is more in tune with Dickens and there are no whacky antics (except for one short scene, which really felt like he was throwing the kids a bone at this point.) Some pretty frightening imagery too.

Really, really loved this flick.

Dude Dante I coulda Told ya Carey was no williams (even though Williams has had some gems... Doubtfire anyone) but I was totally ready to write this flick off as crap. If it's good the damn previews do it a disservice.

Give him another 20 years. He'll be the same fast talking, squeeling rambling mess that Williams is. Carrey is differen't because he puts out a watchable movie every 5 years or so, where as Williams has only been in one movie I can stand. Insomnia. And that's because he's barely in it, and when he is, he's trying his hardest to not be Robin Williams (who sucks.)

Um, you didn't like Hook?

Hook was a good 'un I have declared Dante's opinion wrong.
