Not that I would know anything about this but Middle Men is the first 'mainstream' movie to take ads all over porno sites apparently. Prerolls and all that. Not sure how I feel about that...
Movie will bomb no matter what of course. Somehow movies about douchebags getting rich don't interest me much...
I'll probably see it. I don't think it looks that bad and them advertising on porn sites doesn't bother me. Makes sense, given the subject matter. If Boogie Nights came out today, it would be advertised on the same sites I have no doubt. I like Wilson and I like Rabisi. I think it looks interesting in the way that The Social Network looks interesting (though I know it won't be nearly as good).
First reviews seem pretty positive. I've only seen a 30 second trailer, so I can't comment on them being douchebags or not, but I don't think being the founding fathers of internet smut makes them so or immediately unlikable. Entourage is a good example of something I hate because it's D bags being D bags, this I'm not so convinced yet.
I saw this today and it was excellent. My sleeper of the year so far and I can't recommend it enough. It absolutely tanked at the box office, so I'm sure it'll be on DVD in two months. Do not miss it.
Luke Wilson was perfectly cast (and how often can you say that?)
Giovani Ribisi (sp) freaking kills it.
James Caan, who I wasn't aware was in this, was astounding. Loved it.
This is a modern crime drama. Heavy on the narration especially in the first hour or so. Story goes many directions and hits on all of them. Drugs, sex, violence, drama. All the characters are great, and our protagonist is a very likable dude.
Two thumbs up, and in my top 5 for (the admittedly slow) year.
