So this is getting a lot of Oscar Jazz and it was instant watch on Netflix so I decided to check it out. I have a pre-existing condition which makes me incredibly averse to pretentious art types, I believe the syndrome is called Artists are Douches-itis or AAD. So I went into this with douche sensors at maximum ready to hate on whatever nonsensical BS I saw on the screen.
******Kinda Spoilers I guess maybe it's a documentary if you go in expecting twists you're a nutjob*****
However it seems at least two street 'artists' share the sentiment, they took some French guy with a camera and made him an art sensation with nothing more than a couple sentences. I did feel sorry for their test subject, he was trying so hard to be accepted into this underground clique (I don't know how underground you can be when you have galleries and shows and what not) he ditches his wife and three kids and goes globe trotting around the world. The guys he admires turn him into a joke, he makes millions of dollars, then is made a fool of by the documentary he was supposedly making. It's like cutting your dog's hair into an embarrassing do and parading it in front of all your friends hoping they would laugh, but instead they fawned over it and gave it a steak dinner.
It's pretty obvious Banksy wanted to prove that at least the LA art scene was full of phonies, which he did however in the process he threw a person, that basically worshiped him, to the wolves. Douche move but point made.
