The 15 year old's been sick all this past week, his Spring break and was finally feeling better yesterday. Was all set to go to this with Mom tagging along, and she refused to see it. So we ended up going to Titanic.
Hadn't seen Titanic in several years. Still plays well, but damn, that movie is long.
I think Cameron was a little out of control with the 3D. Winslet's boob pretty much falls right in your lap.
Just joking. The last 45 minutes is still amazing.
The only thing I can say the 3D added was that a lot of the set design, particularly the insides of the ship comes into sharp focus so you can really see the details. Otherwise, unless you're just in the mood for the movie, or itching to see it "on the big screen" again, there's not much here new.
I think Kate and especially more so Leo find their roles in this embarassing. BTW, I loved it when I first saw it. I saw it in the theatres twice.
In hindsight it is my opinion that Leo made no effort whatsoever to be 'period'. I mean, when you think about the way he delivers the dialogue it's as though a 1990s teen has been miraculously plunked into 1912. The only thing 'old' was the suspenders.
I liked Winslet's performance far more.
Back when Titanic came out I referred to him as DiCrappio. I do think he's come into his own. He was credible in Blood Diamond. His Afrikaaner accent slipped a little . . . but it's obvious how much better he is in his roles these days.
