How do you take a great book, several AAA actors and misfire this hard? This seriously looks like shit, and it isn't just the bizzare choice to put this in 3D either, but seriously, what in the hell? I'd rather go down on a menstruating skunk than watch this crap. |

You know what really grinds my gears....
Being forced to watch a commercial before I watch a commercial.
I'd say anything Baz Luhrman does is far removed from the original source - or rather, the original source is merely an inspiration for him to go all film-crazy.
I liked both Moulin Rouge and his take on Romeo + Juliet, and if someone's asking him to stay faithful to some source material they hired the wrong dude. Anyway, we already have a faithful, staid version of this particular material.
This actually looks pretty good to me. As far as the 3D - considering that he's obviously going for the visual fireworks like his previous movies, it makes total sense.
You're so cute when you're grumpy, Dante.
But yeah, I assume you knew I'd disagree.

OK. I watched the trailer for this last night and I need to know what exactly your bitching about Dante. Is it the fact that the director has gone off tangent with the storyline? The fact this has been converted into 3D or the fact there's a CG zebra in one of the shots?
If it's indeed the 3D, then I can see why you're so pissed off. Looking at most of the scenes in The Great Gatsby, the film doesn't need to be in 3D. My guess is that the studios execs want to make sure that the audience is sucked out of their money, regardless how well the film does at the box office.

Yeah, it's cause there'a a zebra.
Do you really need it broken down? Great novel turned into atrocious looking movie, squanders a AAA cast and a dialogue driven character study shoe horned into the 3D fad for an extra buck. |

So when do the Avengers who are sent back in time show up and save the day. A 3D Gatsby movie. Yeah ok.
Regular tickets at $10.50 a ticket $30,000,000 opening weekend
3D tickets at $ 13.50 a ticket $ 38,571,417 opening weekend.
Problem is if you ask anyone ages 15 to 30 now who the Great Gatsby is they will probably say," some guy I don't know. Is he on TV or something. "

Yeah, I get why they delayed GI Joe 2 a year to retrofit it for 3D, but this movie's target demo isn't out there for that. |

So predictable with these gripes. I can't think of 3D movie yet that first and foremost doesn't revolve around "action".
This is obviously geared towards another demographic, a more adult, and FEMALE, demographic. Although I don't predict I'll be blown away by the 3D, it may be interesting to see what somebody does with it who's interested not so much in shit blowing up all cool-like, but rather, making an interesting experience for those who might be shroomin' in the audience. A 3D chick flick? Bring it on, I say.
As far as a generational swipe at how stupid the youngin's are these days compared to your illustrious cohort - I say again, are you guys really getting this old? |

Well, Dante is **Hee Hee** |

Nothing to do with the age of some of s as it is the dumbing down of America.
It all started with Rodney Dangerfield in Back to School, " The Great Gatsby um he was GREAT! "

A predictable complaint in no way makes it less valid. This looks so horrible to me, I don't understand how anyone could be down for this. It's like someone preferring Pablo Honey to OK Computer, I can't wrap my head around something like that.
Also, Hugo fits your criteria of 3D that doesn't revolve around "action."
How many movies are going to be slapped with this unnecessary gimmick to help drive up the box office before we're done with it? It's a total business decision, not a creative one.
