| Did a little double feature this weekend with the kid. This movie and Cabin/Woods.
I've always been fascinated with Chernobyl. Photos on the web, the abandoned buildings, that kick ass level in Modern Warfare 1 - and at $2, I figured what the hell. For some reason I thought this was a handheld POV movie, Blair Witch style, but its not. Not that you wouldn't know that, since the camera does jostle quite a bit.
It starts off with a decent Hostel vibe to it. The abandoned city is done only ok. It seems like we're in the same 3 block area for the entire movie. The famous ferris wheel is laughably small compared to what the real ferris wheel looks like. By the third act the movie doesn't go nearly as far as it should. Add some Hostel, a large dose of Transiberian, and this could have been something.
Unless its free on a Sunday afternoon, I can't really even recommend this as a rental. There's nothing new here, and even the Chernobyl angle is begging to be done with a higher budget, and better script.
Cabin in the Woods. Good once. Definitely worth $2. Reminded me of 13 Ghosts in the last half.

It has a great setup, probably gonna check it at the $1 theater. |
