Our usually housebound/fenced yard poodle contracted blastomycosis, and he began to display the typical symptoms of skin lesions, fever, depression, mild anorexia, convulsions, ptosis of the eyelids last week. After sending tissue samples to the University of Illinois vet lab, the diagnosis was made. Our dog has not had respiratory symptoms and his lab work was normal. My wife is a homeopath and has begun using causticum, after he went downhill rapidly after two doses of the antifungal drugs. After the causticum he is more alert, has lower fever, is much more responsive and he has had two light meals today. I am concerned that the antifungal drugs need to be given, even though we may have a short term crisis. Any thoughts on this one??
