One of the preventatives that I am aware of and know people who use is Black Walnut which is an herb. There are also some other products that I know of but frankly the key here is to get the animal as healthy as possible and keep their immune system boosted naturally, i.e., clean water and food, and proper supplementation, and Mother Nature usually takes care of the rest. There are also other steps you can take if you decide to use the conventional heartworm meds, but would need more detailed information on your animal to make any other recommendations. you may email me privately if you are interested in more information.
