Response to Chronic Loose Stool................................................

Hi Renee, you don't say but it would be interesting to know if the dog had this problem before it came to you. If not- some possibilities spring to mind
? Stress reaction to changing homes aggravating tendency to colitis/irritable bowel
? Some new stressor in the environment eg spray, chemicals/ with same reaction as above.
? Possible reaction to change in food - if not to the main ingredients then to a preservative

I would suggest looking for a food that is organic if possible, failing that one that has no preservatives and is GE free. Or research making your own but using organic ingredients- there are plenty of books about it by Pitcairn, Stein, Lazarus etc.
Then switch to the new food over a week or so. I would also try things like slippery elm powder (nourishes and soothes the bowel and provides nutrients) and a visit to a homoeopath who treat animals if you can find one is also a top priority. Aloe vera is also nourishing and helps the bowel. If the dog has had lots of antibiotics its gut flora (bacteria) may well be out of balance, and supplementing with acidophilus etc bacteria in capsule form may help this. Digestive enzymes added to the food might also prove beneficial.
Remember don't vaccinate a sick animal unless you absolutely really have to, or use other chemicals like topical flea treatments.(Raw minced garlic in the food will deter fleas pretty well and help the immune system...) Also look at www.Shirleys-Wellness-Cafe.com
holistic site which is packed with info.
Hope this helps,
