I have a 3 year old mini dachshund who has been diagnosed with demodex mange. The first bald spot I noticed was also under his tail, then he lost all the hair on his belly. Next came red bumps. The vet treated him for a bacterial infection, and after 5 weeks on various antibiotics and Prednisone, bald spots appeared on his back. The vet then did a skin scraping and said he had demodex mange which is caused by a mite in the hair follicles.
To make a long story a little shorter, we are now in month 3 of treatment and he is no better, is now losing hair around his eyes and top of feet...
I would urge you to keep an eye on his skin and get him to the vet right away if it spreads. Sorry that I don't have a solution, but if I had known how bad this would get I'd have started treatment sooner...
If anyone has a remedy that is natural rather than the Mitroban dips and Ivermectin, I'd love to hear it! |
