My beloved 6 year old shih-tzu has degenerative disc disease. The pattern so far has been thus: he will have a sore back (with swelling), then get better, and then have another setback, often months later. Unfortunately he does meet most if not all of the criteria for this disease. He is under his vet's care, of course, but we lost another little dog to this same affliction in 1997, after she had extensive surgery. She was left paralyzed, and we had to send her home to God out of respect for her. It nearly killed me, and now it's happening again.
What are the alternative treatments for this disease? I am at my wit's end. Surgery of course is an option, but I would like to try something less invasive first since surgery was unsuccessful with our other little baby.
I can't believe this is happening again. Please pray for my little dog. I love him so.
