My shepard collie mix has also been epileptic for the last six years, he is going on 15 years old. We started out with two 1 1/2 GR per day, but due to the ineffectiveness of two, my vet has upped his dose to 6 1 1/2 Gr per day and he is now stable. I wanted to cut back on the meds, but our vet says since he is stable maintain the dose and seisures are very rare. When he first started having them he would sometimes have five or six per day on bad days.
I don't know why all of the sudden he started having them. My girlfriend started feeding him canned dog food (Pedigree, turkey and bacon) seven years ago and we also moved from Southern California to central Illinois.
I intend to continue with his medicine since he is doing fine!
