German pointer puppy=One testicle not dropped, surgery alternative???

My son's puppy's testicle has not dropped. Vet says surgery is necessary, $625.00 is cost. I would like to know if there is an alternative to surgery. Perhaps another modality, like acupuncturer, or some form of bodywork? We were told that the puppy must have surgery within 3 weeks or he will die.
