Response to ...something

Valhorek wasn’t sure what he had done, but it seemed that it was something akin to their meeting back at the Rover’s party when the two of them had taken a walk, and finally kissed for the first time. He really liked Sai’a but couldn’t afford to ask her outright, not during these troubling times when Josen was looking for his son, Dase had an unknown type of power, Tamy had been picked up, also with an unusual power, and Rhn and Torbin were both trying to find answers to their own predicament.

Valhorek noted Dase’s look about Sai’a quickly relieving herself of Val’s hand that she had been holding. Of course he didn’t smile for he didn’t intend on offending Sai’a. After all, she did state that she wasn’t comfortable around other people, and was basically a quiet type of person. The healer would love to change all of that, but at this stage of the game, there were too many other important factors to take care of.

As Dase started to speak the healer noted how Sai’a lowered her head as if in shame because of the reddening of her face. He leaned over and whispered in her ear. “No reason to feel ashamed because you are so stunning of a woman,” Val stated before he pulled back to listen carefully to Dase’s description of Airy as he called her.

Rhngeylor had been seated next to Torbin and was also listening to the explanation. Apparently Airy was some form of either air sprite or air elemental. In any case, this form had taken a liking to Dase. Unfortunately the youth had no idea of how to control the elemental’s actions since she responded only to his emotions. That in itself could pose an extreme threat, but not necessarily to those who were considered his friends. But the problem still remained that Airy would be needed, and Dase was the only person who might have the capability of eventually learning that art. The only question remained was how long would that take.

But then the unusual happened. Here they were, all adults and professional adventurers, and not one of them could think of what to do to help the youth. But then again, it had been sometime since all of them were kids, and only kids come up with the most unusual answers. Dase asked Tamy to use her special brand of powers to formulate an answer. Rhn, Torbin, Val, and Sai’a all looked at each other wondering why they hadn’t thought of the idea. The had been so engrossed in trying to fend for each other’s safety that they had overlooked the simplest of answers.

Tamy seemed uncertain of herself, but because of her affiliation with those that had saved her, and her newly found friendship in Dase, she decided it was possibly best that she at least try. After a few moments Tamy gave an audible gasp, not one of fear or horror, but one of awe and amazement. She must have seen something but what it could be was still uncertain as she simply sat there staring in admiration of whatever she was looking at.

Rhngeylor felt an odd sense at her awe and was trying to pinpoint the reason behind it. It was only then that he happened to look down at his medallion, the medallion that for all these years was merely a reminder of his long lost friend that had trained him, and for all these years had proven not to be magical…until his first meeting with Torbin, when his medallion, or so he thought, was triggered by the stone that Torbin wore.

He quickly turned to Torbin and noticed nothing different or unusual about the woman. That could only mean one thing, that her stone was not pulsating any magic at the moment. If that were the case, what was triggering the so-called magic in his stone?

He hesitantly took the medallion and held it, slowly turning it in various directions until he noticed one odd feature. As he went farther away from the camp it emitted no glow whatsoever. As it faced an area between Dase and Tamy, its glow was the brightest, especially in the area that Tamy was facing.

Rather than disrupt what was happening he whispered to Torbin to look at his medallion. He whispered what he had just learned, and how it seemed to glow the brightest when it faced the area between the two youths.

He looked imploringly into her eyes. “Do you have any idea as to the why of all of this? Anything?”

He had been brought up a ranger, one that was comfortable within the forests. He had studied trees, vegetation, flowers, and all sorts of growing plant life. He had studied the ground, the animals, how to track them, how to follow them, how to tell if they were injured or not. He had learned about the winds, and how to distinguish everything about their nature, whether it would rain, storm, whatever, and when it would happen.

He had learned all of this, yet he wasn’t prepared for the magic that glowed within his medallion.
