Traveling with this group of adventurers proved to be quite a learning experience for Kato. Every person had their own set of values or problems that they tried to adhere to. Of course he was very much the same way, it was simply part of one’s human nature.
But putting all of that aside was the contstant…bickering? It was rather a poor choice of words but from what he could gather, there was some animosity between Jeremy and Soran for whatever reason. More intriguing was the fact that both youths tended to favor Rowan, and that only made Kato think more of the situation.
However he didn’t think about it long since they now resided in the area belonging to the druidess. Fortunately she was kind enough to supply them with an area filled with dead branches, twigs, logs, etc. suitable enough for building a camp fire.
Kato undertook the job on his own once the woman explained where he could find the wood, and soon had a fire going. He started the java, and then proceeded to make a vegetable stew. He also took out some of the provisions they had brought with them so that everyone’s hunger could be satisfied.
During his task he thought a bit more about the others. Alexander seemed to avoid violence where possible, and also avoided needless murders. Kato wasn’t sure how he stood on that concept, but it was something he never really thought about. Eremis and Cas were another strange lot. From what he had gathered, Cas wanted to adventure and Eremis didn’t. Yet Eremis was considered to be a good healer. Too many gaps still left open on that one. Xue was unique in her own right. A shifter, a pretty girl, a good fighter, and someone he really hadn’t gotten to know yet.
Which left the trio of Rowan, Soran, and Jeremy. That show would be interesting to watch. It really had nothing to do with expertise but had everything to do with getting along, and that seemed to be the problem most of the time. Sure, when Kato had traveled he didn’t get along with everyone either, but he sure as hell tried to stay away from causing trouble as well, especially if it was within their group.
What some people never realized was that others were counted upon to watch your back, regardless of how much they hated you or liked you. There were those times when the strongest went down first, and the weakest were the ones saving the day. You simply never knew what might happen during combat. You could only hope and pray that whatever happened, you’d stay alive to live another day. And it was completely worth the effort.
He had to wonder at the whole scene once again. Rowan and Soran, and somewhere Jeremy in there. Rowan leaves the camp followed close by Jeremy, returns back to camp, and is a bit upset. Kato merely shook his head as he poured himself a cup of java.
