Alex caught the last bit of what Eremis said to Rowan as he settled by the fire. He dished up a little soup and got a piece of bread and began eating while listening and watching. When Soran smiled at him from around Rowan, Alex smiled back then turned his smile on Cas.
When Jeremy passed out the candy bars, Alex was curious and hesitant at the same time. He took one and after examining it for a few moments finally figured out how to open it. He took a tentative taste and found it almost to sweet to eat but he didn’t want to be rude to Jeremy so he ate half the candy bar deciding to keep the rest to eat later. Now he began worrying how such sweet, sweet stuff would affect him. He was hoping it wouldn’t keep him awake all night for he really wanted to get a good night sleep.
Alex took the pop Jeremy handed him. “You can sleep in my tent if you like, Jeremy, but I need to make one thing clear. I prefer women.”
He took a few tentative sips of the pop and found he didn’t like the taste. He was just about to hand the pop back to Jeremy when he saw the boy pull out the CD. Alex didn’t know quite what to make of the small nearly flat metal box. Then he saw a thin layer of the box flip upward and gasped in wonder. He watched Jeremy insert the CD and close the lid and allowed to put the box’s strange attachment over his ears. He was reaching up to adjust the earphones when loud sounds suddenly assaulted his ears. “Ahhh...!!!” Startled, feeling a little pain in his ears and suddenly fearful of going deaf he dropped the can of pepsi and quickly pulled the earphones off his head. His ears were ringing and he had trouble hearing things clearly for a few moments. This frightened him badly and he shoved the earphones toward Jeremy.
The ringing in his ears finally stopped and he looked at Jeremy. “I’m sorry, Jeremy, but whatever you just did with that thing was way too loud for me to listen too. It startled me badly and hurt my ears as well. I’m part elf, Jeremy, and my hearing is quite sensitive. Is whatever you just let me listen to always that loud? And if it is do elves on your world listen to such things? If so how do they avoid going deaf?”
