I have little sympathy for people who are in maximum security prisons.
However, I recently saw a show about abandoned animals who's only destiny was to be euthanized.
One shelter decided to test a program where they placed inmates and unwanted animal together.
Inmates were given the opportunity to train dogs to assist the handycapped.
And, the final results were nothing less than astounding!
Inmates discovered love and empathy by working with these unwanted animals...Most important...inmates developed a self respect for "a job well done", that saved the animals life and helped the hanicapped.
The dogs experienced love and a deep sence of purpose.
And, low income, handicapped people were overwhelmed when they received highly trained dogs that eagerly gave them love, companionship and assistance to live a more independent life.
Every year there are MILLIONS of unwanted animals that are euthanized!
I strongly believe that every prison in the United States should have a "animal program" .
I would love to organize this kind of animal program.
But, it take a lot of people to join together in order to make these programs a reality. If you are interested and have idea's and suggestions, please contact me.

I am also very interested in the programs between inmates and animals, and having entered several levels of security prisons noticing that whatever the crime was that got them there fell short to the response of love and caring the inmates showed towards the animals. I have lots of ideas for programs to rehabilitate inmates with animals,so please contact me at my e-mail address.
