Hi All,

What is the best way to pull out a few dents in a barrel after removing the shot tube?

Thanks

Socket wrench

I have used a socket(slightly smaller than the diameter of the barrel) on an extension. I just slid it inside and tapped the outside gently with a hard plastic hammer. It didn't do a perfect job,but it was much better than the dent.KD

Removing dents

A couple of years ago I purchased a batch of home made tools on ebay which were advertised as being the repair tools used by a Daisy collector. One of the items included was a solid iron rod about 18-inches long which was described as the tool to slip inside a gun barrel before you beat on the barrel with a plastic hammer to remove dents. Sounds to me like KD gave some good advice. Lee Doughty

remove barrel dents

You can iron the dents out of barrels with a propane torch and a homemade rod- at least 3/8 inch diameter about 18 inches long. Form a spoon on one end by heating the rod and forging a half round spoon on the end of the rod with a file and smooth with sandpaper. Form a slight s-shaped bend and use the bend as a fulcrum resting on the bottom of the barrel opposite the dents.
Using a back and forth motion while applying pressure, iron out the dents, let cool and sand smooth. Clean out the bore and reblue. Using soapstone, you can mark the dent area before heating. This method has worked for me for years. It is very difficult to remove dents with a mandrel or same size shaft especially on cold metal.
