Crosman Single-Action!!

John Hall: Mine is the .22 caliber Crosman "44'. However this time of the year in south Texas..my ol" model fixed sight Ruger singlesix is in my holster trekking the prickly pear and mesquite brush range, there are some whopper rattlers out here. Crosman is a fun camp plinker, yessiree...!
What do you shoot in your Single Six for rattlers?
Here in Central Illinois, except for the very rare rattle snake, we don't have any poisonous snakes.
I always thought a 38 or 357 with shot cartridges would work well. They make short work of rats in the barn.

SNAKE BUSTERS!

Well, the old Ruger is a habit with me I guess, I have been lucky killing quite a few snakes, cancer eyed cows, busted leg horses with a plain old .22 rimfire cartiridge. I have some OLD antique sixshooters that wont shoot straight that I get use out of by using the shotshells. Like a 1925 Imperial( which is a Spanish version of a Colt Lightning)and a EIBAR Detective( Spanish copy of Colt Positive Special)both .38 cal. But you gotta get close to the dang snake!!

I might add, it isn"t the caliber or size of the bullet in some cases, it is the bullet placement. A single brain shot with a .22 LR dispatches the sick cow or crippled hoss.Rattlers take a fast head shot to put down...you better not miss cause he will zig-zag away from any more oncomming bullets in lots of cases. And believe it or not he IS that fast! At times the evil old things will come after you in a mad rage!
