Model 50 Golden Eagle

I have a model 50 golden eagle lever action Daisy BB gun that I've had since I was a child. Everything seems to work correctly, but it doesn't shoot. Somewhere in the mechanism of the gun it appears an air seal is missing or deteriorated, but that air seal might be deep in the operating mechanism that can't be reached. I've taken it apart as much as I can in that I removed the stock, trigger mechanism and BB tube. Everything that I've looked at seems to be working correctly. At the end of the BB tube is a "funnel" arrangement for feeding BB's into the tube. Also at the end of the BB tube is a threaded portion that screws the tube into what I would describe as a "breech block." Does anyone have a suggestion? Is there supposed to be an air seal at the end of the BB tube, such as an O-ring or a felt or leather pad? Does anyone know where I might get a schematic or drawing of the internals of the gun? Thanks very much. Bill

Oil

Hi
I would put it back together then put some oil down the barrel and let it sit for a day or two with the barrel pointing up then shoot it a couple of times to get out excess oil, better to shoot it outside for this. These rifles had leather seals and if they were not oiled now and then they would dry out. This has brought back many old bb guns doing this.

Thanks very much Steve. That thought did occur to me, so I sprayed some CLP that I had down the barrel and let it sit for a few minutes, but it didn't work. I'm going to do it again like you suggested, only I'll use some different oil and leave it sit overnight, and then give it a shot. Bill

Motor oil should work well.

Solvents and penetrating oils are not as good and should be avoided on newer guns with synthetic seals.

Thanks Gary. I poured motor oil down the barrel. I'll let it set there for a couple of days, then clean it up and see what happens. If the leather seal is too far gone it's not the end of the earth, but it would be nice to have it working again. It would have been nice to break the thing completely down to get at the internals, but I suspect when Daisy made these they probably never thought they would be around after so many years. Bill
