I read your post a couple of times to figure out whether you meant yourself or ds.

DS love the Boxcar Children mystery series, and it's not hard. He doesn't like the Magic Treehouse, but lots of kids do. Both of these are common at the public library, even as e-books, if you want to go that way.

Which language has your ds been learning? It would be fun for him to have books that feature that culture, even in English. Since you're moving to FL, with a strong presence of PR and Cuban culture, I'd highly recommend that you and ds start reading from these wonderful selections.
