I looked into this last fall and asked in my neighborhood. I was surprised to learn that bunnies could either live indoors all the time or outdoors all the time, but not both. With all our allergies, an indoor bunny could be a big problem, but an outdoor bunny might not get enough attention.
If everything checks out, I think it would be good for dd to spend some time helping a neighbor care for the bunny so that she knows a little more about what the day-to-day is like.
