I am on vacation in Vancouver and I am up late working on my computer in the bathroom as DH and DS sleep in the room. I know you are thinking, what kind of vacation is this?!?! bu\t this often happens to me. I can get everything and everyone ready for vacation but my work is so out of control that I end up working nights during my family vacation. I hate this pattern!!!! Before I really buckle down to getting the work done I am indulging in peeking in on my friends. The recent posts about fire etc. were so compelling that I have to de-lurk to respond and also to say hello.
Quick update. Our renovation is pretty much complete except for some punch list items. We were out of our house from Oct through Sept, unbelievably. We are very happy with the results but the process was pretty traumatic, having to move again when the rental we were in unexpectedly sold, unpleasant contractor, huge, huge, huge miscalculations on his part with the costs of the renovation, and the difficulties of trying to balance that with work and family. I am not sure how long it will take to recover as there is still so much to do to get settled and I can only do it in little dribs and drabs. We have not hung one picture yet and many things are still not unpacked, for example. KFran is reminding me that we need a safety plan too!!! I know where the fire extinguisher is, but we need another one for the new upstairs. The smoke/heat detector in the kitchen goes off every time I bake something and it turns on the alarms of the detectors throughout the house. This is an inconvenience when I try to bake at night to have the kitchen one so sensitive. Also, I don't want my family to habituate to the detectors going off!!! I wonder if it could be adjusted a bit. But LOVE the new kitchen!!!!!
After I finish procrastinating here I will go to the front desk and fax some forms in to the psychologist that I am taking ds to when we return from vacation. He is doing very well in school but we have lingering questions about whether to try medication to help him with impulse control. I could go on and on writing about this issue. I know it is strange to have a child doing well in school and for us to still have a high level of concern but things still do not seem right to me.
On the personal front, this is the year of my body! gotta attend to this before the wheels come off the bus! I went to the doctor, dentist, dermatologist; eye doctor is next. Thus far, I found out that I have pre-diabetes. So I am trying to address some of the lifestyle things that would affect sugar metabolism such as stress, lack of sleep, lack of regular exercise, and diet. I have succeeded in bringing my weight down 7% (the recommendation for prediabetes) which also happens to be my pre-pregnancy weight. Funny thing is that I am not technically overweight now but don't feel that good at this weight. I used to be on the lower edge of normal BMI but worked diligently to bring my weight up to try to help with the IF. I think that if I get back to that old normal weight by getting more fit that I will feel better and the abnormal test will go back to normal range (hemoglobin A1C). Also desperately need to do something about work stress but that is a longer post.
LOL, ds is tooting loudly in his sleep. Reminds me that I have to get back to work.
I am sorry that I have not been a good bb friend by being so completely absent. Miss you all!!!!
