you have both been through the wringer. How sad that your ds is so self-conscious now. I remember when my first-grade teacher told my parents she thought I was extremely tense, trying to hold everything together during school, and my ds's teachers told me the same thing this year.
I hope he'll enjoy all of the classes, but especially the taekwondo. I wish my ds had stuck to karate, but he became so stubborn. He would just insist that he couldn't do it, even though he actually was very good at some of the moves. We love his teacher and finally decided that we'd stop pushing him on that first level in hopes that we didn't sour him for later. During my shuttle ride to the airport 2 weeks ago I sat by someone who had owned a karate school, and he was so nice and talked about how so many of his special-needs students had taken to karate. I hope that will happen for your ds, too.
I'm giving real consideration to taking my ds to children's meditation classes. He gets very anxious, so maybe if he learns to meditate a little, it could help.
