Response to Thanks so much, Margie...
The whole "still a baby" mentality has been hard on me, too.
DD was wearing 12 mos clothes at 4 mos. At three, she's wearing size 6-7. Because of her size, there were AND still are a lot of expectations for DD to act a LOT older.
We'd be out shopping and strangers would talk to her and expect her to talk back intelligently - responding with full names and such. Or she would throw fits and I'd get looks from them like I'm such a horrible mother or like she has some problems. I'd have to explain - "she's only 2" and then I'd get different looks - mostly of surprise.
Lately - now that she's turning 3 this week, I've been reminding myself more and more that she's NOT "still a baby"...so I have had to change that thinking...it is strange, admittedly...
BTW - I did have DD tested by the state's infant development program. There were times when I wondered she might be autistic. I had to get it done for a peace of mind. She passed - scoring high on some areas and low on others. Her speech was within the normal range, but we had that retested a few months later by a speech pathologist - not a development specialist - and she thought she could benefit from speech therapy although she wasn't too far behind and since it was covered by insurance, we went with it.
