What is Socialism? Socialism is something that means many differnt things to many different people. Much of this is a result of mis-information or prejudice towards the unknown. But their are also many different interpretations within socialist circles as to the directions and fine points that sould be followed by aspiring socialist societies.

I'd like to start out by saying I do not believe soviet communism can be called socialist, but should be regarded as a sort of consolidated buracracy. To me, in a utopian socialist society, socialism is the ultimate DEMOCRACY. Nationalization of Industry doesn't have to mean government control, I invision a state where worker co/op's own and take part in all industrial decision making. Something like this has been taking shape in Argentina within the last 15 or so years. As a result of capitol flight causing bankrupcy and closures, groups of worker's have simply continued to go to work and produce goods in a truly democratic forum instead of a tyrannical corporate hierarchy.

To me, a true socialist society sould have publicly owned and run services such as transportation, healthcare, BANKING, etc. The production of goods must be re-arranged to satisfy needs instead of wants, which can help in raising standards of living for all instead of inriching the few and turning the masses into mindless consumers.

Obviously this is just a start and their are many more aspects to a socialist society. I'd like to hear your comments and also suggestions on what you think socialism means and represents.

I'm currently writing a long post on socialism, or more specifically communism, which is a specific type of socialism where all buisinesses are merged into one giant co-operative. It's taking me a few days to write because for one thing I've trouble getting to the computer in my house.
